Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that search. The provider processes the entry and supplies the results. Clinton County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we may keep the message for the time needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive basic technical information when a page loads. That information may include:
- Your device's IP address
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Browser type and version
- Page-view dates and times
- Operating system and device type
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand site traffic, such as which pages draw visits and where sessions end. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some website functions behave.
What We Do With This Data

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Clinton County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. It provides general directions to records held by the Clinton County Sheriff's Office, local courts, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Criminal Justice Information Services Division Central Repository, and the Missouri Sex Offender Registry. The website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or into criminal-record profiles about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information entered there is handled under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider decides its own retention and disclosure practices, which we do not control. Review the applicable provider policy before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office, Missouri court and agency portals, legal-aid resources, or outside search tools. Once you follow a link, the destination's privacy terms apply. Read those terms before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use their own systems to observe activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Depending on how you use the website, data may be received by:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Outside search providers that process a submitted query
- Advertising networks serving content on the website
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard safeguards for the information we collect. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor provided such information, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights concerning personal data depend on the law that applies to you and the type of information involved. Missouri's Sunshine Law, Chapter 610, governs access to records of public governmental bodies; it does not create a general right to private-site visitor data. Section 43.509 controls dissemination of open criminal-history information by the state repository and likewise is not a broad private-data right. Subject to applicable law and whether we hold the information, you may ask us to:
- Provide a copy of personal information kept about you
- Correct personal information that is inaccurate
- Delete personal information where the law permits or requires deletion
- Honor an applicable right to opt out of specified processing
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy. A changed version will be posted here with an updated effective date. Review the policy from time to time if you want to know whether these practices have changed.
